Parental Volunteer Opportunities

North Carolina Boys Choir, Inc. is non-profit organization that relies solely on contributions and fund raisers to maintain the proper operating budget. This year, parent-run committees will prove to be an essential aspect in maintaining stability of this organization throughout the year. Therefore, we are in need of parents to volunteer their time to a worthy cause... the choir.

FUNDRAISERS AND OTHER EVENTS

We need some parents and choristers from ALL THREE CHOIRS to volunteer with the following fundraisers and other upcoming events:

SPRING 2008 CONCERT OPERATIONS CREW

We need some parents to volunteer with the following operational aspects of the performance at Duke Chapel in December (some parents will already be on hand due to dropping choristers off early):
  • COORDINATOR (1 person): assigned to monitor logistical aspects of volunteer operations.
  • SET UP CREW (6-8 people): move chairs aside, relocate piano to front, and to prepare the choral robing area downstairs.
  • TICKET SALES (2 people per 1/2 hour shift): arrive up to one and a half hours early to sell tickets and coordinate the will-call table in the front.
  • TICKET COLLECTION (3 people per 1/2 hour shift): collect tickets from and tally all visitors at the door, as well as any people already in the chapel.
  • USHERS (4 people per 1/2 hour shift): Greet concert-goers with a friendly smile, pass out programs, direct people to available seats, and show people to the public restrooms at the Page building (located next door to the chapel).
  • TRAINING CHOIR MONITORS (3-4 people): need two parents (preferably Training Choir parents) to sit with the Training Choir throughout the concert. You will monitor behavior and coordinate mass trips to the restroom in an orderly fashion.
  • TAKE DOWN AND RESET CREW (6-8 people): to help set the Chapel to its original state, according to the chapel's detailed specifications (i.e. moving piano back, resetting the chair order, and picking up left over programs, etc. from the aisles).

If you can volunteer in these areas, it would be much appreciated. If you would like to sign up early, just let one of the staff members know, or contact Concert Choir parent Kim Brouwer at kbrouwer@email.unc.edu with what you would like to sign up for!

LOCAL CONCERTS - CARPOOL COORDINATOR

We are in need of someone or a group of people who will help coordinate transportation issues around the smaller local concerts that we will be giving in late November and early December. This will entail making sure that everyone has a ride by coordinating the carpooling efforts. It may also entail someone making sure both at the headquarters parking lot and on the lot following a concert, that each and every boy has been accounted for and taken in a carpool. This is not too difficult a task, just one that we feel is vital for the safety and protection of our choirboys. If you know now this would be something you are interested in, please let us know.

CHORAL Music Filing

We always have music that is need of filing. Therefore, we are in need of some parents who are willing to volunteer their time during rehearsals, to sort and file this music. Any parent(s) who are interested, please let us know and we will help to get things underway quickly! It is not a major undertaking, and should only involve time spent at rehearsals.

PARENTAL  SUB-COMMITTEES

We are in need of some more parents' support with some of the subcommittees. If you are able to volunteer your time, service, and/or expertise, and have not already signed up, please contact us immediately. If you feel you are able to assist in more than one area, that would be appreciated too! Please direct any comments, questions, or other inquiries to the Parent Relations Chairperson and/or a BOD member.

The following committees have been formed under the auspices of the BOD :
